New Johannesburg  Sector file for Euroscope 3.0a

Version: 3.2.0

Release Date: 30th April 2008

A new sectorfile for Johannesburg has been uploaded to the website for your download and use.  All the files included in this download are specifically written for the new Euroscope version 3.0a but will be backward compatible with earlier versions.  This version fixes a few errors that used to appear when loading the .ese file and corrects the SIDs and STARs around FAJS.

There are a few extra files included in this update that will help new users to set Euroscope up.  One drawback of Euroscope is that it is labour intensive to setup and get all the items displaying as they should on the radar screen.  These files, if loaded correctly, will set Euroscope up to display the sector file as I have it.  Of course you can then set your individual settings to your liking afterwards.

Suggested install and usage:

Extract the files from the zip into a “Johannesburg” folder in Euroscope.  Open Euroscope and when it is finished loading click the “OPEN SCT” menu button on the menu bar at the top of the screen.  Next select “Load Sector File”.  Point Euroscope to the folder you created and select the .sct file.
After the sector files loads click the “OPEN SCT” button again and select “Open …”  Point Euroscope to the .asr file in your folder.  After that, click on the “OTHER SET” button on the top menu bar and select “Load all settings”.  Point Euroscope to the ‘settings.txt’ file.   You will soon see all the taxiways, runways and airways on the screen in different colours.  (Ahhh… Thats better…. :-D)

After that, close Euroscope without saving and it will prompt you to save your changes (3 times as different settings are saved each time).  Once Euroscope is fully closed, re-open it and it should load everything with no hitch.  And that’s it… From here on you can tweak just about everything about it to your liking.

If you have any questions or suggestion, please feel free to email them to me at information@vatsaf.net

Happy controlling!!

Teamspeak Idle Time Rules.

To help save bandwidth on the new Teampseak server and also to declutter the rooms, "Idle Time Rules" have been implemented.

If you are in the "Away From Keyboard" room, you will be allowed an "Idle time" of  1 hour maximum before you are eligible to be disconnected by a staff member. In any other room this time is 15 minutes.

If you are called more than 3 times with no response, you will be deemed "idle" and you will be disconnected from the server.

If you find yourself disconnected, you may reconnect as normal.  If you have been removed more than 3 times from the server you may be "banned" and you will require a staff member to "reactivate" your account on the server before you may reconnect.

Please help us to keep the server free of unnecessary connections so we may provide the best service to you!

Euroscope has arrived and so modifications are needed to use it with the South African sector files.  The updated files for Johannesburg and Cape Town can be found at http://www.vatsaf.net/downloads/atc/sector_files.php

These files are accompanied by the .ese files that Euroscope requires to load correctly.  These are the first editions of these files.  Please watch the website for further updates in the near future.

Centralised ServInfo Updates
You are most certainly aware of a tool called ServInfo and you
probably use it, and/or those similar to it on daily basis.

You may also be aware that this free and absolutely
can't-do-without utility is quite a bit out date. Unfortunately
its creator (Michael Frantzeskakis) has had to stop developing
it back in 2005, due to real life commitments. Therefore, there
won't ever be another official update or a new version of the
software.

To address this issue, VATSIM has decided to compile its own
"VATSIM-official" update to the ServInfo databases. We are now
starting the process of gathering and accepting data from all
around the world to contribute to this update.

For more information visit the forums here.

Updated sector file FAJS Area FIR ver 2.1.2.

This sector file removes the "diagram bugs" where duplicate entries were seen for each SID and STAR. Now there is only one entry for each.

Enjoy...
