Circuits (VFR)

Short Description Programme Outline

Well you studied and passed your Ground School and have your Radio Telephony Certificate.
Now it is time to get serious.

We are not going to just into that nice brand new pay ware add-on of ours. Instead we are going to use one of the best known and loved aircraft in history.

It has trained many pilots and now is your change to download the same aircraft and get to sit in the seat that many successful Airliner Captains sat in long before you.

Be prepared to learn how to fly a proper circuit.
It might very easily be the most boring part of learning how to fly, but a proper circuit and approach for landing will ensure that you can and will be able to land anything at just about any airfield.

I can not stress the importance of flying a proper circuit enough.

  1. Discuss the Circuit
  2. Discuss the radio procedures for each leg
  3. Effect of power setting
  4. Effect of flap settings
  5. Cross winds operations
    5.1 Takeoff
    5.2 Circuit
    5.3 Approach
    5.4 Landing
  6. Practical flying session
Admission Requirements
  1. Registered VATSIM Member of the South African Division
  2. Registered student of the VATSAF Aviation Academy (Full member of VATSAF, Registered with VATSAF web site)

  3. Takeoff fly the circuit and correctly do position reports on the different segments of the circuit
  4. Perform proper approach
  5. Perform a controlled landing
Certification
  1. On successful completion of the programme, the learner will receive a Circuit Course Certificate
  2. It is the first module to complete in order to qualify as a Private Pilot.
  3. Exam questions will be taken from the downloaded study material as well as what is expected to be general knowledge.
Duration

The course is done on a One-on-One basis and will only be presented when a student registers for the course.
The course will be presented in two sections.
Hour - Theory
! Hour - Practical Flying

The Student will then practice flying circuits on his/her own time and when ready apply for a practical examination.
The requirements to sucesfully pass the practical will be:

  1. Maintain runway heading after takeoff
  2. Maintain circuit altitude to between -50 +100ft of the circuit altitude.
  3. Maintain circuit direction to within 5deg of the circuit segment.
  4. Correct position reports
  5. Correct communications and procedures with the Controller.
